Emily Field won the San Francisco Marathon yesterday in a time of 2:50.24 taking the race by 48 seconds over the second place woman, Emily Belli. She was one of four women who broke 3:00 on this difficult course. Ironically, an Emily – Emily Hardin – won the race last year so the Emily’s were trying to keep the tradition alive by running side by side for most of the race.Emily followed last Emily Belli for most of the race until she broke away the last mile.
The course starts at Fisherman’s Pier, runs through Chrissy Field, back and then forth on the Golden Gate Bridge then through the Presidio into Golden Gate Park, Haight-Ashbury district and then finishes by AT&T Ballpark. It’s a hilly course. Emily was so excited and surprised about her time, she’s now looking to try for the Olympic Trials qualifying mark of 2:46 sometime this fall or possibly sooner in the America’s Finest Half Marathon in San Diego later this month (If a woman can run a 1:15 in the half marathon that will qualify her for the full marathon trials). Best of luck, Emily!
